Local filmmakers show ‘Night of the Living Spuds’

Mid America Filmmakers is presenting an afternoon of locally produced short films and a contest of staged readings in a special winter event at 2 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 6, in Century Center’s Recital Hall.

Downtown diners could be ‘fit and fabulous’

Eleven participating restaurants in downtown South Bend have teamed up with a dietitian to develop two new healthy-menu items that will be featured this month.

Through Monday, Feb. 28, downtown diners are invited to travel with a Healthy Dining Passport to at least five participating restaurants and order one of the new healthy-menu options at each restaurant. More info here …

How do global corporations impact the common good?

A public lecture series at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business will feature lectures by scholars, executives from top companies and others involved in social responsibility and sustainability efforts.

The 2011 Ten Years Hence speaker series, which focuses on “Business for the Common Good,” will take place on select Friday mornings through April 8. It is free and open to the public. More info here …

Data Realty to build at Ignition Park

As reported recently in South Bend ON, Mayor Stephen J. Luecke announced on Wednesday, Feb. 9, that the City of South Bend reached an agreement to sell land in Ignition Park to a private company that will build a nearly 50,000-square-foot data center. Data Realty LLC, a startup company based in Innovation Park at Notre Dame, will break ground this spring for a Tier III data center. Read more …

Board created to review Ignition Park architecture

South Bend’s Redevelopment Commission took steps on Friday, Jan. 21, to establish an Architectural Review Board for Ignition Park, charged with the review and approval of land uses and development within the state-certified technology park. Read more …

Analytical laboratory open for business

Innovation Park at Notre Dame has announced the opening of an analytical lab that allows qualified researchers in the region to perform a complete range of critical experiments for commercial development of their new business concepts. This comprehensive laboratory enables researchers to generate, prepare and analyze samples in a single laboratory space, with the added benefit of access to advanced equipment and expertise on the University of Notre Dame campus. State of the City address affirms signs of progress

Mayor Stephen J. Luecke gave his 15th and final State of the City address to the South Bend Common Council on Monday, Feb. 7, at the Indiana University School of Medicine – South Bend, highlighting signs of progress and potential for the medical school and the city as a whole.

Notre Dame receives honor for community engagement

The University of Notre Dame has been selected as one of 115 institutions of higher education to receive the Carnegie 2010 Community Engagement Classification.

The classification, designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, recognizes “the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.” More info here …

State awards go to programs at Robinson learning center

Students in two innovative educational programs initiated at the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) recently took top honors in regional and state competitions.

The RCLC Lego Robotics Team won first place for project presentation in the 2010 Indiana FIRST LEGO League Tournament in Indianapolis on Sunday, Dec. 12. Members of the Robinson Shakespeare Company took five of the six top awards on Friday, Dec. 11, in the third annual Shakespeare at Notre Dame Regional Shakespeare Monologues competition. More info here …
