"We have all the tools and resources we need to make this one of the best communities around, and I find that in South Bend, if you're committed and willing to work together, positive change is possible. Several years ago when people were saying that schools could improve, I engaged with the South Bend Community School Corp. and founded the Apprentice Academy and, more recently, the South Bend Career Academy, a charter school that embraces the future of every child regardless of what his or her dreams are and equips them with interactive, practical implementation of learning. What this city isn't already we are busy making it. And that takes everyone. This is a place where progress like this is very possible."
